Salt Lake City, UT – ShineBox Media Productions announced today that copies of their critically acclaimed film, “Killer at Large”, will be made available free for school teachers for use in the classroom. A special twenty-minute version of the film has been assembled by the filmmakers and is perfect for affording teachers enough time to discuss the complex issues raised in the film in the space of one class period.

The award-winning “Killer at Large” explores the multi-faceted obesity epidemic facing the United States. Producer Bryan Young insists the problem is so large that, “we felt it was very important to get as many people as we can to discuss an issue that the last few Surgeons General have warned us is the biggest threat to our country today. Classrooms are the perfect place for that discussion and, to that end, we thought it was vital to offer teachers an opportunity to show important excerpts from the film and discuss with students the issues they face in the world in regard to obesity.”

The DVD contains a producers commentary track featuring Executive Producer Shawn Talbott, Producers Bryan Young and Elias Pate and Co-Producer Patrick Waldrop.  It also features a second commentary track with director Steven Greenstreet.

The disc also boasts 6 deleted scenes, theatrical trailers, footage from our New York premiere with Chevy Chase and Mr. Chase’s testimony before congress about childhood obesity.

Killer at Large Screening for Utah Parents, Teachers, and Students

Holladay, UT – ShineBox Media Productions is pleased to announce that it’s award winning documentary, Killer at Large, will be making it’s middle-school debut tomorrow night at Olympus Jr. High in Holladay, Utah.  The screening will start at 7:00 pm and is going to feature a question and answer session between parents, teachers, and students about the obesity epidemic and how it affects the community.

Killer at Large, recently available across the nation on DVD, is an expose on the American obesity epidemic.  It weaves a complex narrative of the causes of America’s weight problem and offers some examples as to how the problem might be fixed.  It features interviews of former President Bill Clinton, consumer advocate Ralph Nader, filmmaker Neil Labute, and bestselling author Michael Pollan, among many others.

It also features a number of stories of local interest, including an examination of the unhealthy school lunches that are offered in cafeterias in Utah schools and story about a pair of teachers in Orem who tried to get the vending machines kicked out of their high school.

Produced entirely by Utah residents, Killer at Large, has made a splash on an international scale, winning awards as far away as the United Kingdom and as close as garnering an Arty from the Salt Lake City Weekly.

“This first school screening,” said the films Writer and Producer, Bryan Young, “is a kickoff for a larger initiative we’re starting to get parents, teachers, and students involved in the process of helping turn back the tide of the American obesity epidemic.  We’re the heaviest population in the history of the world and it’s time we do something about it.”

To that end, starting in the coming weeks, the producers will make available through their website (www.killeratlarge.com) 17 minutes of excerpts from the film free on DVD to any teacher or school interested in using Killer at Large in the classroom.  Check www.killeratlarge.com in the coming weeks for more information.
