Local Music Figures Big in “Killer at Large”

LOCAL MUSIC FIGURES BIG IN ‘KILLER AT LARGE’
Salt Lake area musicians figure prominently on the soundtrack of forthcoming major documentary

Salt Lake City, UT – For some local acts, getting exposure on the national scene isn’t so easy, but a few acts are finding their music more and more on films that are making the rounds across the country. ShineBox Media Productions (a Salt Lake area production company) is featuring local acts prominently on the soundtrack of their upcoming documentary film “Killer At Large” in the hopes that maybe other filmmakers will follow suit.

“The Salt Lake music scene is one of the most vibrant in the country,” says “Killer At Large” director, Steven Greenstreet, “I traveled all over the country making this film and experienced many art and music scenes. Salt Lake’s is one of the best. It really is. And when it came time to arrange the soundtrack for this movie, we decided we wanted to give something back to the local music scene we love so much. We received money to pay for the music, and so, what better way to show our appreciation to the scene than officially licensing local music and getting it exposure on a national market?”

Salt Lake area bands featured in major sequences in the film include The Wolfs, Mushman and local musician Jeremy Harmon.

David Fetzer, frontman for Mushman, added, “It’s great that we can get this sort of exposure. The Salt Lake scene deserves all the attention it can get and movies are a great way to do it. We did a track on the soundtrack for ‘Wristcutters’ and have seen a big increase in people interested in our work and we expect ‘Killer At Large’ to do the same.”

For their last film, “This Divided State”, ShineBox Media Productions commissioned original works from Vile Blue Shades and The Utah County Swillers and the film saw a sizeable theatrical release and is available around the world on DVD. “We’ve used local music in all of our movies,” said Elias Pate, a producer at ShineBox, “and we don’t intend to stop.”

“Killer At Large” is a controversial political documentary that serves as an expose on the American obesity epidemic. It features interviews and footage with such notable figures as Former President Bill Clinton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ralph Nader, Neil Labute and bestselling author of “The Omnivores Dilemma” Michael Pollan among dozens of others.
