Invites You to Face the Nation’s “Killer at Large”

 

Global Foundation Takes on Childhood Obesity with a New York Documentary Premiere and Social Awareness Gala Like No Other

 

New York, NY – The Children’s International Obesity Foundation (CIOF) announced today its sponsorship of a first-of-its kind event in the battle against the epidemic of overweight and obese children – a phenomenon said to touch every single American in the next 40 years. The evening will feature the new politically-controversial obesity documentary “Killer at Large”, revealing why America is losing the war on fat and how everyone is paying the price.
The event will be held November 21 at the Times Center in New York City; details below.
The CIOF is working closely with several health and humanitarian organizations in New York, including the House of Jimmu and National Action Against Obesity on a red carpet, fundraising gala to bring awareness to the myriad of factors behind obesity – causes most people have no idea relate to this American epidemic. Organizers feel this is a crucial, historical step in addressing obesity among all Americans, especially among children, which many obesity experts feel are part of “the first generation of young people on track to live shorter lives than their parents.”
Event coordinators boast a social and educational evening beginning with healthful food tasting served by noted organic chefs, followed by a New York premiere screening of “Killer at Large”. After the film, the audience will be invited to take part in a panel discussion about the many causes and possible solutions to the obesity epidemic. The panel will include the “Killer at Large” filmmakers along with several experts on obesity, some of which are featured in the film.

The event will be held in one of New York’s most talked about destinations, the Renzo Piano-designed NY Times building – The Times Center and will include celebrity signings.  Fundraising efforts will comprise a silent auction, raffle, and other wonderful surprises.

In line with The Children’s International Obesity Foundation’s mission, the film “Killer at Large” aims to expose obesity for what it truly is, well beyond the “eat less, exercise more” mantra of most health advocates. CIOF’s Executive Director Robert Hinnen said, “When I first learned about ‘Killer at Large’, I was immediately drawn to its eye-opening content and realistic view on the obesity problem in the United States. After screening the film, I can tell you this is one event you do not want to miss… you will walk away feeling as if you’ve uncovered a hidden truth.” While the issue of obesity has simmered to the forefront of the mainstream media’s attention, “Killer at Large” moves far beyond individual struggles and extreme diets to deeply dissect this epic struggle. Through an impressive list of expert interviews and true-life stories, “Killer at Large” provides a sobering perspective on the most pressing health issue of our time.  It also serves as a call to arms for concerned parents, school districts, employers, and entire communities who have empowered themselves to take a stand and reverse this deadly trend – which the film reveals is poised to cripple our nation’s health care system and bankrupt our economy within the next 20 years.

“Killer at Large” has already earned several awards, including the Silver Medal Best Documentary Award at the prestigious International Filmmaker Festival in the UK, Best Political Documentary at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, an Indie Gathering Film Festival award in Cleveland, Ohio, and an Arty Award from Salt Lake City Weekly.
